First Day of Spring My Arse

It's the first day of spring, and it's cold and raining and just plain dreary outside. The weekend was a lazy one, for the most part. I spent some time with my Grandma, who turned 77 yesterday. She's a spry little lady, enjoys laughing and dancing every chance she gets. She's also a bit of a gambler, well moreso her boyfriend is the gambler, but she's into it until her $20 worth of nickels is spent.

My Uncle Racist was there, whom I haven't seen or spoken to in about three years. I guess he's come around some in the past six months or so (after he was involved in a back-hoe incident that severed his hand). He's at least started speaking to my mom (his sister) again. The whole ordeal revolves around the fact that my brother has a bi-racial daughter, in whoms life my parents are very involved, and the fact that I have an African American boyfriend. A few years ago he made it known (to others in the family) that he just was not ready to accept "coloreds" into our family. (Oh.No.He.Di'n't!) His daughter got married in 2003, and I was not invited to the wedding, nor were my parents if they intended on bringing their grandchild. I about hit the ceiling. This is a man so strong in his convictions, yet doesn't have the balls to say anything to my face. A little over a year ago, my recently married cousin had a baby boy, I have not seen him yet. Although I have run into her once, it nearly broke my heart trying to stand there and have a conversation with her, asking her about my little baby cousin whom I've never seen.

And to top it all off, Bloggers been having problems since last Thursday, and as weird as it sounds, I sure do miss looking at my blog. I think I've become attached to it. And, of course, when it's not up, I can think of a million things to write about. I didn't worry about it over the weekend, and according to the status site, it should be up and running again, but alas, it is not. So I'm rambling on in hopes that by the time I'm through, I'll actually be able to see this post somewhere other than in preview.

Good for you for being the bigger person and tolerating Uncle Racist for a day.

It's his loss :)

Wow! I am in an inter-racial marriage and luckily my family has been very accepting. That is so sad, but it does make you a better person to tolerate him....Hi from Michelle!

Blogger can be such a pain. I cant for the life of me figure out why they need to do so much maintainence! It's sooooo frustrating!

Well, it sounds to me as if Uncle Racist isn't going to change anytime soon. And yes, the weather has been Overcast here in the Mid-West USA. You sound like you have a good outlook despite the frustrations. So do hang in there!
